Hawaiian Lomi lomi massage is also known as Kahuna bodywork & uses a combination of massage techniques, nut oils, and sometimes elements of prayer, breathing and dance to restore energy and soothe the body. Practitioners use the palms, forearms, fingers, knuckles, elbows, knees, feet & even sticks and stones.
It is commonly known as the 'loving hands’ massage. This name helps to explain its principles for the massage works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes, allowing the recipient to relax and give in to it’s nurturing touch that permanates into every cell of the human body. The long, continuous strokes of the massage are designed to help the body let go of its old patterns and behaviors, which can cause as many stresses and strains as muscle tension.
Like all endeavors in old Hawaii, lomilomi is conducted with prayer and intention. Hawaiian kupuna (elder) Auntie Margaret Machado describes lomilomi as "praying" work. with healing prayers & intent lomi lomi massage is a unique and authentic healing modalitiy that holds fast to its ancient traditional roots within this modern world of today.
As an advanced practitioner of this tradition i also specialise in skeletal bone washing, kahi loa & floor treatments.
skeletal bone washing
Hawaiian Bone washing releases ancestral memories, subconcious memories and trauma and corresponding physical & emotional pain. Bone Washing is an ancient form of therapeutic massage used to aid the process of clearing “cherished” wounds.
the intent of bone washing is to find those spots of negative trapped memories and to release them.
This treatment involves working, with a light touch, into the periosteum (the sheath or fascia surrounding the bones) to release memories that may be causing pain (physically, mentally or emotionally) or preventing one from moving on in life.
The client is fully dressed wearing comfy clothing for this treatment.
The touch for Hawaiian bone washing is quite light, so definitely not as extreme as it sounds! However the quality of the pressure or depth depends entirely on the needs of the client. We work together with an intention of your choice set before the treatment commences. The treatment also gently encourages the receiver to acknowledge any past or present events that may be inhibiting growth and preventing healing and overcomes these barriers by working with intention and forgiveness to self and others in a calm and relaxed way.
Kahi Loa
is a form of Hawaiian energy work that was originally carried out by the Kahunas.
a translation for “kahi loa” could be similar to “unique touch” or “flowing movement”. in this treatment, my hands touch your body with the energy of various natural elements and help it to regain its balance. a translation for “kahi loa” could be similar to “unique touch” or “flowing movement”. in this treatment, my hands touch your body with the energy of various natural elements and help it to regain its balance.
the first three elements remove what does not belong to us: the warming and invigorating fire (ahi) burns the coarse parts. with the flowing element water (wai), which is responsible for the emotions, blockages are then gently flushed out of the body. the wind (makani) finally sweeps away everything that is still there and does not belong to us.
the following three elements add what is missing: the stones (pohaku) contain ancient knowledge and are used worldwide for their healing powers. the (medicinal) plants (la’au) have a nourishing and healing effect. the animals (holoholona) remind us humans of our natural instincts and our adaptability. through the contact with the last element, that of the human being (kanaka), a balance is established and you are supported in integrating the previous elements in your “being-human”.
kahi loa has a balancing effect: it’s calming and vitalizing, depending on whether something is missing or too abundant within your energy system.
what to expect when receiving a lomi lomi massage
more of the body is uncovered during this massage than during a typical swedish or deep tissue massage. that's because therapists rarely massage one body part at a time. instead, they move in long flowing motions that, for example, may start at the top of your shoulder and go all the way to your feet. some therapists use massage sheets in the usual way uncovering larger areas of your body at once. the more traditional practice is that the therapist uses no sheets, but rather covering your more imtimate body parts with small towels.
However, Coverings of the body are always respected as an individuals preference and comfort.
Hot Stone Massage
also available on request is hot stone massage or a mixture of both techniques. beautifully scented essential oils create an atmospheric ambience. during the massage inhaling the aromas from essential oils stimulate parts of the brain relating to smell often bringing up emotion and memories which can be cleared from blockages within the body.
Ho'oponopono
The word ho’oponopono roughly translates as “causeing things to move back in balance” or to “make things right.”Ho'oponopono offers forgiveness, love, and harmony to fraught relationships and can bring relief and healing. People who struggle with the concept of forgiveness– both for themselves and for others– often find comfort in this deeply healing age-old practice that comes from Hawai’i.
This ancient Hawaiian practice of forgiveness functions as both a communication concept for reconciliation and a tool for restoring self-love and balance.chanting this prayer over and over is a powerful way to cleanse the body of guilt, shame, haunting memories, ill will, or bad feelings that keep the mind fixated on negative thoughts.
